Stolen moments would be the phrase most apt to describe Herb Wood's pursuit of Art.

Known in southeaster Arizona as the UPSman, Herb paints the scenery that he observed on his route each day. The only time he could paint, while working, was in the early morning before he went to work in the Sonoita and Patagonia area.

Herb retired after 33 years. He now has the quality time in which to paint. Herb is self-taught and believes in painting what he is familar with such as the Santa Cruz County landscapes and is currently working on Tucson area paintings.

Herb just finished his 17th year exhibiting at the Mountain Oyster Show and has sold every year there except the very first year in 1991.

Herb's painting style is very similar to the Hudson River School. He uses a series of glazes to create luminosity and a mood in the painting.

Herb is originally from Pennsylvania. He moved to Tucson with his parents in 1941.
